My 80 gig Ipod classic.
I was just thinking about how I purchased that Ipod exactly two years ago this past weekend and how it kicked so much ass. Then on saturday I was testing the waters to see if I should wear a wetsuit or drysuit (no jeans) and that stupid cord that was tucked in my shirt still managed to catch on the edge of the dock. Then I heard that unmistakable splash and I knew it could only be one thing.
So now my 'pod is sitting in a bowl of rice (*not minute rice) while I wait for the prognosis. I may have fried it though becuase I pressed the buttons, and I guess you're not supposed to do this. But who wouldn't press the buttons? It's a curiosity thing. And a response to my inner hope, thinking that after time and care my 'pod would turn back on.
Anyway, I'm sure most of you have dropped phones and whatever else into the abyss of your stomping grounds. Hopefully you ended up with results like mine, because each time I went out on saturday and sunday, the lake completely glassed out. It was totally crazy because it was windy (almost whitecapping) on both saturday and sunday. And once I was done on sunday the front blew in and it was pouring rain I thought was going to turn into snow or hail. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

one day I broke my ankle on a back 3 and decided to hang out on the dock while my friends finished their sets, my buddy came in a sprayed me while I was laying down on the edge so naturally I sat up forgetting my phone was on my stomach. I heard a few clanks and then a splash. Somehow my friend who just sprayed me found it and brought it up and it was still on. Then it went to black and white, then the sound went off. Slowly it came back to life and now it works fine except the home button (Iphone) doesn't work. It takes some real creativity to change apps or screens now. |

rice--the ancient chinese secret.
Thanks for the well wishes...I hope it works. Really I wish I hadn't pressed those buttons, but what can I say, I'm human.
Hmm...at least we've all made a sacrafice at one point or another. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

the rice thing works wonders. just dont give up, it may take like a week or so for it to funtion completely normal. just happened a few month back to my cell phone and at first it worked expect for a few of the buttons. Then after a few more days it finally worked like brand new. There are lots of videos on youtube showing different methods of resue for phones and ipods.... |

I don't know if you really want to do surgery on your ipod. But...after doing almost the exact same thing as you, I looked online and found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3302. Then, I cracked open my ipod, took apart some stuff, found that exact pink indicator square and colored it with a silver sharpie. Two days later, full warranty at the apple store. Too legit. |

ive used rice for my phone 3 times, never tried pressing buttons though, instant battery removal, but my phone was in saltwater too, and it still works fine, and i also do believe mr. roman rusinov used this trick on his slr and it worked great. _________________ Team Dream Sleds

I'm definitely not busting it open. I bought a nano to hold me over because I take my ipod everywhere and I feel lost without it (plus, the new nanos record video). If the rice doesn't work, I will have it repaired somewhere because I still want to use it. I'm not ready to say good bye, since that Ipod had me at hello...
Russian, since this thread is all about sacrifices, did your clothes end up ultra clean since you gave your 60 gig to the laundry gods?
I'm a jerk for saying that, so I probably deserve to have my Ipod effed. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
