Box for a new winch spot

Found this nice spot where I don't think we would ever get bothered and decided to make a box. I was able to build, transport and set this thing up myself. I didn't want to spend a ton of money and was able to get some of the stuff for free

This was pretty easy to make and wanted to post some pics for anyone thinking about building one. The most expensive part is the Azek (around $70 a sheet) but it slides great and will last forever. There's probably cheaper stuff out there but we have another box that has had Azek on it for about five years now and it's still in perfect condition.



I decided to make this 32" wide, because two 4' x 8' sheets of Azek cut to 32" wide would give me three 8' long sections, totalling 24' in length.

For the box frames, five 2x4x8' where used for each section. At $2.97 each at home depot, each section only cost about $15.

Out of the five 2x4's, two of them are used for the sides and the other three I cut nine 29" lengths.




After I doubled up the ends I spaced the remaining five 29" pieces 15" apart.





My one friend's vag was hurting and didn't want to hit it unless there was plywood under the Azek so I grabbed two sheets of 7/16" at HD, $6 a sheet. Again cutting the two sheets at 32" leaving me two 16" pieces put together to make up the last section

This creek has a real sandy bottom so I went with 1" gas pipe for the supports instead of 4x4's which is what I usually use in our river. This where I saved alot of money.. My friend had a bunch of lengths laying around, and I have a vice and threading machine so the only thing I had to buy were the 1" floor flanges. ($36 for all twelve of them at a plumbing supply) I cut and threaded twelve lengths all about 6' long. I tightened the flanges with a pipe wrench so when I pound the flanges into the ground there's no chance of the threads breaking off.




I walked the area where I wanted to put the box and looked for the deepest spot where I wanted the landing to be. The first section I set would be the last 8' section out of the three.



The bottom was sandy enough where I could push most of the pipe into the ground and then finish it off with a sledgehammer. I used a right angle drill and thicker then normal screws to screw the flanges into the bottom of the frames.



I bought four nailplates at the plumbing supply store to hold the three sections together ($3 for all four)




Finished! Now get in your car/or on a plane and come hit this






Here is all I needed.. I used a table saw to cut the Azek and plywood sheets and a chop saw to cut the 2x4's

Last week when some of that snow we got melted, the water did rise a few inches. I was there earlier today and I was thinking about making an up ramp so if the water level keeps falling it will always be hittable, with the option of ollieing on.
