I'm looking to start some dreads and am not to sure how to go about it and would like to know if anyone can point me in the proper direction. I'll try to get a pic of my hair up soon but i have very curly hair. Any websites or knowledge from experiences would be greatly appreciated. _________________

Send a message to Chad H. or headhunter or whatever his name is now. I think he's still a mod. He had some going for a while or maybe still does. Not sure, but I know it's been discussed before and he knew a lot.

Dreadhead is a really good site, they have a lot of info and tips, they even have a video on how to backcomb. There is also a huge photo before and after database of people who have used their stuff to start dreads. They sell a starter kit with a comb, wax, rubber bands, and everything else that you really need. I think it is like 40 bucks or something.

dude, you do not need a 40$ "dread starter kit" just dont wash your hair for a week or so, and just start rolling em' up, like the rastas man!

I've been looking at dreadhead just not quite sure if any of my friends are skilled or trusted enough to backcomb my hair _________________

All depends on your hair type, I never had to wax mine or do anything to them after I back combed, but my hair is ultra-knotty.

dvsfour20, The dirtier your hair is the less likely it will dread. The oils in your hair prevent it from locking up.
Parker, I had my gf backcomb mine and they turned out pretty good. Just have whoever does yours start way in the back so they can get some practice before they get to the dreads that are more visible. |
