So I've decided winching isnt enough, I need to get a longer pull, but I need help. I've decided an inboard is out of the question as gas would cost too much, so Its between a ski and a lemonscraft, the problem is I've never ridden behind either, so I need help deciding. The things I need to know are:
How will gas compare?
Which will be easier for my gf to run at a constant speed?
Also I will hopefully be getting some friends interested so I need to know which would be easier to teach someone with.
If I go with a lemons, what size/width would be best, and what hp motor am I going to want in order to teach beginners?
Lastly, I've never been on the water here in florida, so if theres anything I need to know on the legal side of either of these options, please let me know (Ie: Insurance, any kind of boater's classes I need to take, spotter laws, etc)
Thanks for the help guys |

My ski is a gas hog but I'm sure there are better ones out there. As far as throttle control I's day they're about the same. I don't see how it matters if it's a boat or ski to learn behind. You can hold more people on a boat, a ski will probably cost more than a lemonscraft. You need a spotter for a ski and I'm sure you need one for a boat too. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/nizzate/ |

Gas is really cheap for my boat, well comparatively any how. I fill it up for between 20 and 25 bucks, and a half tank (about 3 gallons out of 6.6 gallons), will let three people take two solid sets each. I can usually make a full tank last a week or half a week depending on how often and how long we're riding. My boats only a 16 foot with a 25hp and it pulls fine with a driver and rider, and still pretty good with a spotter driver and rider, and throws a really fun wake, great lip and in/out. The tiller is the best thing ever for wakeskating, you can turn sharp, adjust your speed easily and watch whoever you're pulling the whole time your driving comfortably, just will take your gf and buddies a bit to get used to.
The legal side is where it can get expensive, you have to have the title for the boat, have it and the trailer registered and tagged. you also need, if you are under 21 and driving anything over 10hp, a Florida Boaters Safety ID Card, which you can get by taking an online test.
With a little aluminum boat like mine, you need a wide angle mirror or a spotter, and you probably want to ride with a cga approved vest because you will get a ticket if you get stopped. You can look up online all the other stuff you need on board. I learned a lot of this the hard way, being stopped by the same FWC several times, only two tickets, he can't catch me ridin' dirty no mo'
Hope that helps a bit. |

I have 2 2-stroke jetskis right now.
I talked to my dad tonight and he said he was going to trade them in for 2 brand new 4 strokes, and get a johnboat and a 40 hp engine (my friend can get a tower) and we're making a lemonscraft.
I'm stoked! |

*Nate, i'm pretty sure they changed the law to under 21, i've had mine since i was a kid, and my buddy who's 19 was driving my boat back through the canal and the FWC was giving him shizzle about not having one and that he could write him a ticket for it. |

it is under 21. but anyone can drive the boat just as long as someone in the boat is 21 years old or has a boater safety card. so you can have your 8 year old brother in the boat and the person driving doesnt have to have a BSC. but the other person has to have thier BSC on them. or else you get a ticket
and some food for thought
my 07 Sea Doo wake edition burns 5 gallons of gas an hour (at 35 mph)
just learned that yesterday. it made me cringe _________________

I have a grinch, I don't really have the skills to build my own winch. Thanks for all the quick replies guys, I was leaning towards the jon boat and it seems like you all agree on that, so thanks. Now to start looking for a cheap aluminum boat |

just adding in my two cents. Lemonscraft would probly be fun for having more people and maybe better wake but with a ski you can also just go out and ride it and have fun with it without wakeskating not so much a lemonscraft _________________ "Wakeskating is...not fun.
