bigtwake, they didn't make them in limited supply but not many people have them anymore. this board is turning into the next 03 4 trac... it has a lot of meaning. if you have the money, get the board _________________ -andrew- |

actually, it was made in limited numbers. 100 or so were made. they were supposed to do a second batch of 50-75 boards for 07 and that didn't happen
and no offense, but the 4-trac is in its own league for very different reasons. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

electricsnow, The 4trac is in a different league if thats your thing. Personally when I rode the 4trac i didnt even like the board. It twisted and contorted, and didnt ride very good IMO.
The 06 TNT graphic is my favorite graphic all time. SO to me a mint tnt is worth more than a 4trac in plastic. but its all personal preference. You can still run across extra stock of unsold cassettes at random shops that couldnt sell them. You wont be finding any integrity skates on clearance at your local mom and pop wake shop
a mint TNT 39 is super rare. this one is worth some money. _________________ integrity-wake.com | chriscut.com |

chris, I'm not even talking about riding characteristics, but the bigger picture, sheer identification and the context in which that deck was a part of. you KNOW when you see a 4-trac on the water, and the imagery, progression and vibe that most attach to that board is meaningful because if they were there, they knew they were witnessing an extremly special team along with a brand of style and progression that had not yet been established or even touched. People make references to that time, like "this video will be the next sfumato" and whatever else. To me, it's a feeling and an aesthetic that will never be replicated. And whatever anyone is trying to do, it's better to have your work stand on its own instead of trying to compare it to or have it stand up to something else that's timeless.
And I'm not saying that nick's pro model isn't significant--of course I wanted one awhile back. Ultimately, it IS personal. You may not even be able to relate to anything I said about that 4-trac. And I'm sure you have a greater connection to any integrity than some of the others that mean something to me. I just think that it's something that stands on its own instead bringing attention to it via one of the more "trendy" boards to collect right now.
Also, I'm not really sure why you brought production numbers into this (accessibility of product isn't something that should be held against them), unless you're trying to establish a "rarity" factor. yeah, there might be some boards sitting on the racks, but that may not be reflective of the quantity of boards that actually exist in a presentable state. Yes, cassette was fortunate enough to have more money to actually produce boards and sell them through shops. BUT, people also bought those boards and rode them and wood does break down, paint flakes off, etc. (people were not sitting on them like some do now. Remember, tying any sort of nostalgia/additional monetary value to a wakeskate is new to 99% of the people on here.) You can use skate decks in a similar fashion--a ton of boards for a popular company may have been produced, but if people bought them and rode them, there will be few that exist in a condition that is desirable to most. Conversely, you can produce a wakeskate that is "indestructable" and that doesn't really deteriorate, and those few hundred decks will still be kicking and in varying conditions, depending on if the user actually hit any rails with them (use them [boards] for what you will, whether it be nostalgia or straight ripping).
on a side note, that's why wood decks can be a fickle monster... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

I have a mint 39....
I do agree that the 4-track has a nostalgic thing going for it. It's part of a time period that was special for alot of people in wakeskating. Not that other boards weren't, just that that green just stands out it was also revolutionary in design, and the board featured in arguably the best skatin flick to date. |

well, what required 5,008 words from me was just articulated by russian in one word. he hit the nail on the head. And I can still recall a post on wb.com where some dude bought a 4-trac and learned a body varial on it, and was so stoked on his trick and also looking down at that board as he rode away. I think it says a lot that people paid 250.00 for a board in 2003 and they couldn't even noseslide it. Anyway, verbosity (or sheer attitude) hindered the message...
jeffknox, you must have really been in and out, or just didn't pay attention to the media because the 4-trac was everywhere. Thomas hardly rode his own pro model in favor of the 4-trac. WBM gave one to whoever could come up with the best name for their wakeskate specific section; thomas, danny and aaron rode it on the pro tour and the now defunct VTC; it was in every dvs ad (including the iconic helicopter shot of thomas' re-entry ollie or reed's wake to wake flip), that insane oakely ad with danny kickflipping metro west and people wondering if he landed it or not (the proof is in the puddin'--check out the footage, which is in retrospect after all the credits) sfumato, blacklist, asterisk, snap, etc etc. you get the picture.
but in all fairness, this site does create hype for a lot of things (i think you could look at the general forum and see that in more than one instance). In fact, this thread is doing exactly that for nick's first pro model when it's caught in the realm of being a pricey collector's item to being a sick wakskate from what might be someone's favorite rider. 'tis the way wakeskating.com turns.
lastly, some people still swear by the 4-trac, and pay hundreds of dollars, five years later, to ride it and not hang it. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
