All I've learned is that electrical take is the most important thing in one's Holga Kit. Light Leaks destroy...

I just take pictures of my cats.

So about the 120 film.. would it be smarter just to buy the 35mm mod? I'd like to get it close to the original with the 120 film, but where can i get more/get it developed? We don't have a darkroom or anything of course. And i'd imagine CVS and most photo labs won't do it. Any info would be great. Very Happy

you don't have to buy a modded camera to shoot 35 mm film. You just need to put some foam blocks on the top and bottom of the roll so it stays in place.

[b]slapdown ; I would stick with the 120 because of the superior image quality that comes with such large negatives. I assume you are going digital with your negatives and or slides, or just viewing viewing for pleasure on a light table. The 120 format favors this sort of workflow. As for development any professional film imaging establishment should be able to develop this size. I don't have any problems finding a variety of 120 film stocks in Dallas.

I just picked up a few rolls of color reversal 120 film that i plan to shoot in orlando in january. ill try and post some of those. hope this helps ;

lets see some more meduim/large format wakeskating photos on this thread

Here's my prediction for the next Wake photo revolution.....

HDR (High Dynamic Range)

Quote:
The main concept behind High Dynamic Range imaging is that you are taking several normal photos and combining them. By combining photos of the same scene at different exposure levels, you create a a surreal image with hyper-real colours and detail.

Sorry Reed....HDR is digital based. However, it is, to a certain extent, similar to classic Multiple exposures that one would do with a Holga....just with different exposure levels for each shot.

Below are some examples.... THESE ARE REAL PHOTOS (which I stole off the Internet).

The link below is also a good "how-to" for HDR.

HDR is already played out, And far to overdone in most instances.

It's tough to get a good image that'll look good in HDR, and then it's just as tough to get it to look good in HDR. It's more of a digital art than photography, so I doubt it'll ever really catch any momentum. It's fun to look at what people spend hours upon hours doing, though!

For me, it comes down to budget and aesthetics. I like the holga because of its visual style and the fact that you can experiment with it. Otherwise, I have a digital camera and while it's fun to snap some shots...I guess I just want to play around with a look that, for my taste, has more character. I have some other cannon film camera, but I have not used that for a couple of years now. Ultimately, I definitely don't have money to get into photography full-bore, but this is fun for now...

Le Jalapeno, there's nothing "wrong" with any of it. It's all up to ones personal taste and what they want the final image to look like. For my tastes, most manipulated images look funny, but there are some exceptions. Using a blending technique to get maximum dynamic range can really make a landscape shot look more like the human eye sees the scene. The images that Johnny Utah posted are far more digital art then photography, I don't really care for it. But alot of people like it. And thats what makes art great, what I like you may hate and vise versa. Personally I like clean images with 99% of the work done in camera(modern digital slr's require sharpening and sometimes some curves/levels adjustments) but I'm a little old school(using modern equipment Twisted Evil )
The most important thing is to have fun with it, make it your's and try to be original Very Happy Very Happy

RUSSIAN, can you do HDR with just about any camera? I'm working on scholarships and theres an idea i have for the one poster contest that HDR imagery would tie into perfectly
