me and my two buddies (roland and feif, for those who know) were winching in this pond right by their house on some rails they have set up, just a chilled out winch sesh, and this kid was walking down the street (probably like 16-17 years old) and comes over and starts talkin to us and askin about what we were doing. he got real stoked after seeing a couple people go and went to his house (which was nearby) and got some old shoes and shorts and was like "i want to try this."

So he started trying to get up just like setting the board at the waters edge and the more he tried just the more pumped he got on just how cool he thought wakeskating was. it took him a while to learn to balance on the board, but he finally got it and rode all the way across the pond. once he got up and balanced, he like naturally dropped his back hand and stood like he had been riding for years.

He got back up on shore and was SOOOO stoked. started talking to one of his buddies on the phone and wanted to tell him about it but couldn't even remember what wakeskating was called haha. He was already talking about really wanting to do it again.

Definitely was a rad experience and showed me a bunch of things. First of all, it is always so rad to me just to see beginners get SO pumped on wakeskating. We all ride all the day and often times take for granted that feeling that we got when we first got hooked on wakeskating. I'd rather have this happen any day than another pro learning a new trick. It also opened my eyes to winching a lot: it creates accessibility not only for people who already ride, but also can get into a demographic that could not have been likely reached before. Winching was key in this situation to introducing someone to wakeskating. And it was definitely easier to teach than from a boat or jetski. Just the thought that some random kid walking down the street is now thinking about how much he wants to wakeskate again is amazing.

That spot is sick. Did they build another rail out there? Last time I was there it was just a flat bar.

Quick update: As many of you know, Walter was suffering from cheaphondacloneparts disease. Last night, he had to undergo immediate surgery to his recoil starter. It was amputated and replaced with a donors.
Looks like he's going to "pull through" fine!

This is a video of him shortly after the surgery.
