Ok so I'm buying my first snowboard setup...I'm pretty set on the board (07 Neversummer Evo 151) and the bindings (07 Rome Targa's)...but I cannot decide for the life of me what kind of boot to get.
I want something that's relatively stiff...when I do wakeboard I ride 07 3DS boots which are super stiff and I really like the responsiveness of them. I also have a pretty narrow foot with a high arch.
Also how do binding/boot sizes match up...the Targas come in small/medium and large/xtra large...my foot is about a 10 1/2 - 11, so would I be looking at the large/xtra large size?
I"ll also be buying my boots online because it's a lot cheaper (I live in Canada and none of the retailers have adjusted their prices to our dollar yet...so shizzle online is like 1/3 the price vs in-store retail prices). I was also going to be buying both the board and the bindings from BuySnow.com b/c of the price and my good experiences with BuyWake.com.
However, once you guys suggest a few bindings I'll try and go out and find them in the city just so I can try them on then probably buy them online. |

bindings will match up to a size range. Sometimes, it's best to have the boot with you, just to make sure it's not abnormally large and wouldn't end up fitting in the binding. But I think nowadays, that's more of a problem with someone who's buying old boots and new bindings.
And since the size range is coupled like that, you'd most likely be in the large, extra large size.
I can't really suggest any stiff boots for you because I'm not super familiar with any. I live in the midwest and we didn't really carry any stiff boots because 99.9% of the people that come in are either mellow freeriders or pretty much park/jib rats. It's rare to get someone that wants a really stiff boot around here. But I would just check out the online catalogs from burton and ride and see how they rate their boots. Or just shoot a question over to someone at eternalsnow.com or something (they're reputable). _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Yeah...I talked to a few of the guys in the local proshops and not many sell stiff boots mainly because I live in Manitoba and everyone is just big park/jib addicts. I will be doing a lot of snowboarding here, but I'll also be going to BC to ride.
I only thought I'd like a stuff boot because of the 3DS, and because I liked to be locked down with lot's of responsiveness through the bindings/boots...that's why I chose the Targa's. Maybe I'll reconsider the whole stiff thing and look for a little bit more of a mellower boot.
Also, because I'll most likely need the large/xtra large bindings, will they hang over a regular sized board? Or should I consider getting a 'wide' board?
Thanks for the reply e-snow. |

| Size large? I went and tried on some boots today and it turns out I'm a size 8 boot wise...so I'm thinking I'll be needing a medium binding. The large would probably be too big for me. |

Woah, I had this massive response ready and then saw you said you're a size 8. yeah, your board and bindings will be fine that way. But with a 10.5-11 boot size, that's boarderline for a mid wide, or possibly a wide with the 11.
Finally, I think you have the right idea about trying some boots on. Fit is super important and somehow, I just wouldn't compare wakeboarding boots/bindings to snowboarding boots. I don't know what the 3DS bindings are like, but I know that all of my wakeboarding bindings were nothing like my snowboarding boots (and i used to ride highbacks and at the end, vandall solbounds). and even though a boot is considered "soft" it's not a noodle by any means. Plus, you're going to be getting some support from your highback and you'll be locked in with your straps...I just think it's all a different game. Just check 'em and see what you like. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

| I have forum boa boots and love them. I got them heated and the liner is molded to my foot. Boots you just have to try a few pairs and yo will find the right pair |

Yeah the 3DS are basically descendants of the Highbacks...basically Chad designed them after snowboard boots, so conform to you lower leg just as much as your foot, so they're really stiff and give you tons of control.
I tried on a buncha boots, I can't remember the names, but one was a Burton and the others were ThirtyTwo's...the 32's were stiffer, but the Burtons felt a little bit more comfortable and $100 cheaper...so I'm leaning towards them.
Thanks for all the advice guys. |
