I didn't get into wakeskating because I wanted to skateboard on water.
It is its own thing and let it be what's it wants to be.
I realize that wakeskating is wakeboarding and skateboarding's lovechild, but that doesn't mean we have to follow them around like foreign jewelry salesmen in the mall. |

So true dude.....and the worst is when people are always comparing wakeskating to skateboarding. You can not deny its roots but the constant comparasin is like a slap in the face to wakeskating. |

deepcove, it feels like half the kids on this website blew at skateboarding so they tried wakeskating. I love to WAKESKATE not skateboard.
We have the freedom to do whatever we want on the water, quit conforming so you can feel legit around your skateboarding friends.
There are certain pro riders who can stick a trick perfect, but I still can not stand to watch them ride. Then, there are stylish riders who can even drag hand and I love every minute of it.
Narc-p you can't tell other pros how to ride, simply put. They'll figure it out or they won't. |

every trick done on a wakeskate was first done on a skateboard. so we are skateboarding on the water pretty much. |

And Drew, Jama thinks outside the box...something I admire about him. He's not saying dont do kick flips or fs flips. He's just saying. Have your own style and your own way of throwing the tricks... dont stay in the box skateboarding has put themselves in _________________ 10101 |

| Classy, nobody is relating sketching out tricks to skateboarding. How many skateboarders do you see landing on their backs and dragging out for 20 feet? The reference was about the difficulty level between skateboarding and wakeskating. Nobody is conforming to try and impress our skateboarder friends. How many skateboarders do you know that go to shops and buy wakeskate DVDs? (Unless they wakeskate) The thread was about getting tricks CLEAN for film. |

tahoe, thank you for your proofreading, and i miss you too. almost as much as i miss wakeskating.
Jama, i definitely agree with most of what you're saying. wakeskating should go in its own direction aside from skateboarding, but skateboarding is a great blueprint for us to follow because of how successful it has been and whatnot. we can use skateboarding to our advantage so we can learn from its mistakes, see what works well, etc.
trust me, i've thought about this a lot. wakeskating definitely has tons of things that seperate it from skateboarding, and i think that we should embrace those things. at the same time, nobody can deny how awesome stuff like winching looks, because we can relate to it and it looks so rad because, well, it looks like skateboarding AND we're on water, that connection just looks pretty rad. and we can use the "terrain" aspect of skateboarding to expand our reach of wakeskating to all the different waterways of the world (with the winch), which in turn makes our sport even radder. nobody on here is sad we're not skateboarding, skateboarding is way cheaper and honestly easier than wakeskating (see how long 3 flips on a skateboard take over 3 flips on a wakeskate to learn). it just seems like a good role model to follow.

that all comes down to style. style is a crazy thing...it's basically undefinable and entirely subjective. beauty is defintiely in the eye of the beholder when it comes to style. at the same time though there are basic tenants of what style entails, such as pop, fluidity, flow, smoothness, and riding clean. pretty much everyone agrees that sliding on your ass for 30 feet isn't very stylish, but then again there could always be someone that likes that "style"...i'm not sure who ever would but hey maybe that person is you. as far as hand drags go, i'm not gonna tell someone to climb back up anderson and redo their 360 flip down it because they set their hand down. but ass drags are just stupid and only possible because we use a rope. go ask aaron reed if he's stoked on landing sketchy tricks. _________________

Classy, we are like 3 topics past that. but we dont mind if you scetch out of something. we all do it. just try to land things clean before you claim it as a consistent trick in your bag.
so rail jams... do you love them. _________________ if your going to send vibes make them positive. |
