the second one (if you have the money) seems like it would be alot better if it does HD, it has that housing around the lens to reduce glare.

pick up a used canon GL-1 or a GL-2. Sick cameras, hard to break, amazing quality. We use them for filming snowboarding and it works real well.

defiantly go with the sony hdr fx1 (the second link)....

that other camera is a peice of shizzle for the money. another good camera for a reasonable price would be a Canon Gl2...

but for the best quality for the price is def. panasonic...

GL1's are played. There are so many new camera's out now that you can get for 500 dollars cheaper that look twice as good. We use a Panasonic GS500 and two of my buddies have GL1's and the Panasonic BLOWS the Canon out of the water in picture. Some of these new 3 chip camera's are looking good. I'm a big fan of Sony when it comes to DV. HD will be good in the future but it's harder to work with and takes up a lot of space. If you have the money and the option for those two camera's i'd take the 2nd one in a heartbeat. way more versatile. after you buy it send it up and ill test it out for you.

I use a JVC GZ-MC500

It's records to Compact Flash (CF) cards and comes with a 4 gig, and also has a slot for SD. It's a 3CCD and it has a manual focus ring, which, to me, is a very nice feaure. The quality is really nice and i got it for $500. Of course it's not as nice as the second camera you listed.

If you're really looking for quality and one HELL of a nice camera, without worrying about price, check out the Panasonic AG-HVX200.
