I removed the governor from my honda knock off to get a few more rpm's. Now when I start the engine it goes flat out right off the bat. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you overcome it. Thanks |

sk8tehwake, you sir are an idiot. removing the governor on a winch is not as bad as you would think considering the engine only revs really high for about 30 seconds at a time. this is not long enough to actually do damage to the engine and alot of winchers are doing this. |

It sounds like you have reassembled the throttle linkage wrong. I've seen honda knockoffs missing some parts in the linkage. See what everything does and try and find your idle-setscrew. if you look at the engine from the exhaust end you will see two screws under the air filter. the larger, plasticcy one is the idle screw. The throttle arm has to touch this in idle and it has to be adjusted properly. Try fiddling with the setting and see if anything changes. If the arm doesn't return properly try putting a spring there to bring the arm back fully.
Hope this helps. It's a bit difficult to explain but otherwise send some pics of the linkage with the air filter off and I'll try and set you up with a better explanation. |

Thanks sparrow.2 I think that spring idea is the go. When I have the throttle on low the carb is wide open unless I pull the governer arm back. (as the governer normally would) |

beardo i had the same problem. if you engine is like mine, it goes like this:
throttle lever is connected to the governor arm which is then connected to the throttle butterflies.
you may have to re-adjust the linkages and/or ad another return spring to get everything properly lined up. i cant say there is an exact science too it, but you need to make it so the butterflies are 100% closed at zero throttle, not allowed to float open. i just made the linakge solid and added a return spring, but im going to go to a direct throttle linkage that just operates the butterflies directly and thus i wont need to mess with the governor arm.
if that doesnt make sense, i can try to snap a picture of how i changed it and made new pieces, seems to work for now. my revving problem was the butterflies could only go to about 25% closed even at "zero" throttle" |

Thanks Norcalz. That make sense. Picture woldn't go astray if youv'e got the time but I am pretty sure I know what ive got to do. I was thinking about your idea of a direct linkage from throttle lever to butterfly. I think that might be the go. |

Just forget all the throttle linkage and make something operate directly off the butterfly on the carburator. |

mtwake is right, i still need to do this but cant find a level throttle like a bicycle brake that i like with a built in return spring |

It is really easy to add another return spring like Norcalz said |

I got a friggin' return spring contraption on mine. I will send pics when i get home from work today. I fabbed a return spring mount that extends off of one of the gas tank bolts. |
