|
here is the deal, I havent been riding latley due to a blown knee and now its cold here but I did recently buy a tramp.
I have found that I can do heel flips and kick flips ALOT easier switch, on the tramp(i can do them regular but am more consistant switch).
i think its cause I prefer using my control foot to "flick" the board. you know you use your back foot to "steer" but its in the front when your switch. has anyone else found this?
Here is the real question. Is it considerd switch if you CAN'T do it regular?
I know danny hampson used to only do kickflips switch(havent watched him latley so I dont know anymore) but I always said and heard from the really wise man(who sometimes post on this site) that its not switch if you cant do it regular. what do you think? _________________ the only thing worse then the freshman 15 is the freshman 9lbs 5oz |

| wakeskate77, I say you don't worry about it. Consider it what you consider it. |

| if your doing a trick in your "switch stance" then its switch no matter if you can do it regular or not. |

you might ask yourself if you have just been riding switch the whole time, and are just now learning your proper stance. if that's the case, you should be pretty damn good, pretty damn quick. probably get a sponsor- if you're lucky _________________ forever shreddin' |

Some people do not have a definitive stance. Some are regular for one style of tricks and goofy for another. _________________ √ |

| On a wakeboard, I learned switch 270s in and out before I even tried a regular one, and I snowboard with my other foot forward.... |

che blanc, Just because they can only do certain trick a certain way doesn't mean they are both regular and goofy. _________________

| PIRATE, how so? ambidextrious people are neither right nor left handed so why cant that also apply to wakeskating where a rider is neither regular nor goofy? |

I think this is an historical moment. For the first time ever I agree with Mr Taylor. _________________ 01/20/2009. Niko-chan! |

Being ambidextrous implies that one is equally proficent (as an example) with both their left and right hands. I guess with that said, i'd picture an ambidextrous rider to be equally proficient both ways, instead of having various tricks in what probably started out as their dominant stance, and then found that some other tricks were easier in their opposite stance.
I understand that for me, there are certain tricks that are easier to do on a skateboard switch and even fakie than they are regular...sometimes your body just wants to move a certain way and it ends up feeling more natural. But I would not call myself ambidextrous (though the goal is to have seamless riding in both directions). And it's crazy because since someone mentioned danny hampson, I just remember reading that he learned his wakeboarding tricks one way but then he skated goofy and that carried over to his wakeskating.
for all intents and purposes, I still subscribe to the switch and regular labeling and tend to lean towards the "if you're switch, you're switch" commentary. I guess I'm traditional... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
