i dont want this to start a bunch of arguments but do you like the manuals on the gate are cool looking. for one i dont think its even a challenge to manual on a gate because all you do is lean back, but anyways i think they are lame and dont even look good. what do you guys think

Unfortunately the title basically means you have no choice...

actually u asked so i think theyre a pretty cool trick but not nearly enough to start so much controversy, especially over the name, which im glad u called it a manual not a tailpress. i really think theyre like a lipslide, not too interesting by itself but when its comboed in to other tricks like shuvits, bigspins, 180s... etc., its a very stylish addition.

yeah i guess you could consider it like a lipslide but with a lipslide shuvit out it looks cool becuase your board is sideways so that makes a shuvit while lipsliding cool looking. but with the gate all your doing is putting weight on your tail so its pretty much like riding straight but your nose is lifter higher in the air. also by doing this you have no pop on any tricks you do so they dont look cool for that reason also. this is just in the flats, now on rails this is a totally different story i think a nosepress on a rail is really really cool. i just dont think the manuals in the flats are anything special.

oh yeah i forgot . . . does the higher nose allow you to be able to nolle and do fakie tricks or does the nose still dig into the water and send u slaming onto your face? Smash

i have never done them before but if anyone has done them on the gate how hard are they. and is a manual shuvit any harder than a normal shuvit. and oh about the pop if your already in the position of a manual without sliding your foot up like you can on a skateboard. can you actually get any pop with the manual shuvits, because when brandon thomas does a manual shuvit in asterisk he does them way lower than his normal shuvits.

it isnt 2 hard but it still takes some balance and board control. to get pop while manualing all u do is like a normal ollie, u just push down on ur back foot to the limit and pop ur front foot up. i cant really explain brandon thomas's low shuvits because im not him but i have seen him pop some really high ones 2.

when you say "it still takes some balance and board control" and why does it take balance? do you fall side to side or your nose falls down? my friend has a gate and i'm giong to try one the next time i ride so i can see what your talking about. becuase right now i'm kind of a skeptic of the manual thing in the flat water. but i will soon find out.

just when u go to push the board forward a little to get the board in front of u and the nose in the air, its hard at the beggining to judge how hard to lean back and push the board in front of u, but maybe it was just me

In my opinion, manuals on the Gate look ridiculous. It might look cool across the top of a box or on a rail, but in the flats, it looks pretty dumb to me. I haven't taken the time to ride a Gate yet, so I haven't personally tried it myself. It may be a fun trick to do, but I don't think I would even try it because I don't like it.

Dave, don't you have like size thirteen feet? Those little tiny kicktails wouldn't be able to keep your flippers from dragging in the water.
