Freerider4 nailed it, many have tried to commercially sell winches under $1,000 but none to my knowledge have succeeded in doing so... _________________ The aforementioned postings and musings are the opinions of myself in their entirety and are not the opinions of wakeskating.com |

First of all I think that the winch is the greatest invention ever(thank you to whom ever built the first one). I have a super air in my drive way and all I can think about is winching. The possibilitys are endless. And I understand that most of you are just kids but if you think that 1000 bucks is to much, than you have no concept of money. I spent 950 building my own winch. and I spend at least that every month taking my boat out( gas, insurance, payment, maintence). think about it... _________________ at least be honest with your self |

I have pondered making winches and selling them but right about the time that i start someone like hyperlite will comeout with it made in china for half the money.
when MC sports and Big box stores are selling winches in 5 years from now for 200.00$ everybody is gonna be buying them. watch. Half of the parts on it you could have injection molded composite plastic and whola. You could even make the frame out of injection molded composite plastic All it is now is simply "a matter of time" until someone mass produces a winch in china or something just like those stupid minibikes or those gay a$$ scooters for 250 or whaterver they cost.
my 3 cents
Mario: speaking of winches i started the pool/rail jam in the grass by the shop. should be done by the weekend. I emailed you some pics. _________________ Never, never, never, never give up

I would be all for 250 dollar winches. mass producing is not always horrible as long as the product is made of a good quality. |

I agree sometimes mass production is a way to really make things the way they are meant to be made.
imagine what your clothes would look like if they didnt have mass production textile companies(i imean just a plain old tshirt material and blue jeans). we all be walking around in knitted yarns and fur pants. ............kick a$$.................thats right i said it........................fur pants.
sorry to wander on your thread.
good luck with the winch.
i got a couple great ideas for the winch your building. Ill email you sometime, maybe we can help each other out.

In past experience, any plastic parts would not mean good quality. But if it means bringing the cost down as much as 250 dollars, I'd give it a chance. |

$1500 is tooo much man you can build your own for less than 400, even if you don't have a welder or know how to weld you can pay someone to do that for you and the rest is simple _________________ ~ www.integrity-wake.com ~ www.iwinchglobal.com ~ |

everyone thinks building a winch is so easy and cheap. well, their winches end up cheap(quality), and they end up asking the guys who bought good winches a million questions to get theirs right.
i love the old "hey i'm trying to convince my dad to buy me a grinch, can you send me some pics of you'rs so i can show him?" |

myers, dude you would have to do some awesome shopping to find all the parts you need for 400 bucks... and especially if its your first winch and your still figuring it our as you go... you tend to have to buy more parts than needed... most people with DIY winches spent 700 to 1000 bucks... and if it was less than that then they either had serious winching experienced help or its their second or third one built... 1000 - 1500 dollars for a commercial winch is a damn good price iif you ask me... quite bitching and split it with four of your friends and then ride all day with only like 3 bucks in gas... and then tell me it was too expensive _________________ Nothin better than Wakeskating and Motocross!
