I just got back from Idaho and Wyoming. I got a chance to ride 2 standing waves one on the Boise river and one on the Snake river. I was wondering have any of you guys ever ridden a standing wave on a wakeskate? I think a wakeskate would be the perfect board of choice on something like that because of the float and shoes. I rode my skimboard on it and was pulling 3 shuvs. I will post some video up as soon as I get it. I am going to also talk to some people up the with doing a contest on the boise standing wave and I think that wakeskaters would love to ride this thing. Ill post some pics and video soon...... _________________ Justin Boisclair

sounds like a man made mechanical wave? a small pool that has a motor that throws water up a ramp while said rider is on the ramp. you're kind of falling down the ramp but water keeps you moving.
or i could be completely off. |

a standing wave is when 2 currents face each other in a river, so you got a wave, that is at the same spot all the time. On some rivers it happens once or twice a year, on others it's more frequent... And I wouldn't have tought that a wakeskate would float enough to keep you in the wave
Now what Grubb did in france was something else. I know the spot where he went, it's like a concrete slope with water running down on it nothing like a standing wave lol
and yeah PICS PICS PICS _________________

A standing wave is a stationary wave in a river, think whitewater. The wave is always there as long as there is enough water flowing over it.They are usually caused by big boulders and drops in the river.
We also have a famous one here in BC on tidal rapids that gets surfed.
Big country How did you get on the wave?Tow,paddle?
I think this would be next to impossible with a wakeskate.Even if you towed onto the wave [the only possible way you're gonna get on that thing] you just don't have the surface area or flotation to stay on it without some kind of constant tow.
The faces of these waves generally aren't as clean as ocean waves-read chop- and have the tendency to surge and change shape with the river surges. This makes them hard to stay on with a surfboard let alone a wakeskate. _________________ http://www.bellacoolahelisports.com/index.html

Yeah we had two of them at the theme park here (King's Island) in cincinnati. They tore them down last year to build some worthless kiddie land or something. _________________

I live in BC, Canada heres a link to a video of the Skookumchuck Narrows where standing waves always happen. this video is of a guy surfing them. Enjoy.
I don't think you could wakeskate it.
http://www.coastalbc.com/video/inhouse.htm the video is right at the top. _________________ all i want to do is go wakeskating with out a full wetsuit, i hope the water warms up soon. |

the wave that I rode was in the snake river. It was where the river becomes smaller in width which makes a wave train and in some wave trains there are actual standing waves I got into one called Lunch Counter with a rope tied to the side like a rock, jumped into the river on my stomach then crawled onto my feet it was pretty intense with white water rafting trips flying by me. And the other wave I rode was 3 concrete slabs in the river that made 3 waves you could walk onto these waves it was pretty sick . I think a wake skate would be so sick _________________ Justin Boisclair

| they have one at Schlitterbahn waterpark, not too far from Texas Ski Ranch, on Tony Hawk Skatepark tour they turned it up and let them surf/skate on it. Normally its lower and you can only kneel on your board. |

Bert thanks for the link
Yeah it was Skookumchuck I was talking about but I've never seen that footage, that was sick
I have lot's of friends who've gone kayaking there for years and I always thought about trying to go surf it but have never got around to it
I heard it had been done but now I've seen it
Now you guys can see why this wouldn't be possible with a wakeskate, you just wouldn't be able to stay with it. _________________ http://www.bellacoolahelisports.com/index.html
